Environment

We place great importance on controlling greenhouse gas emissions and have set the goal of "achieving carbon peak by 2023 and net-zero emissions by 2050." Through measures such as improving energy efficiency, optimizing energy structures, and empowering emerging technologies, we have planned a phased emission reduction pathway. We are committed to harmonious coexistence with the natural environment and continuously promote green ecological development.

  • Industrial Decarbonization: Embracing Climate Opportunities

Kunlun Energy is committed to improving energy efficiency and continuously optimizing its energy supply structure. In 2023, the company's greenhouse gas emission intensity decreased by approximately 15% compared to 2020, a remarkable achievement that highlights the company’s dedication to greenhouse gas reduction initiatives. In 2024, Kunlun Energy released the "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Action Plan 2024 Edition", which further refined and upgraded its dual-carbon goals. Building on its existing targets of achieving "Carbon Peak in 2023" and "Net Zero Emissions by 2050", the company made an additional commitment: by 2035, its LPG, urban gas pipeline networks, and branch pipeline businesses will take the lead in achieving "Net Zero Emissions"

  • Green and Low-Carbon: Empowering Excellent Operations

Kunlun Energy places great emphasis on ecological civilization and continues to promote green construction, deepen its renewable energy deployments, and implement integrated energy projects in response to the country’s major development strategies. The company continuously improves and optimizes its environmental management systems to minimize environmental pollution, advance its clean energy layout, and move toward a "Net Zero" future. It also promotes initiatives such as Safety Month, Low-Carbon Week, and Energy-Saving Day. By enhancing energy management and implementing technological transformation projects, the company reduced its energy consumption intensity by 61.5% in 2023 compared to 2020.

  • Accelerating Transformation: Striving Toward Dual-Carbon Goals

In response to climate change, Kunlun Energy actively promotes green technological innovation and low-carbon transformation, adhering to the principle of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. In 2023, the company procured 1,828.738 million kWh of renewable electricity, accounting for 10.82% of its total electricity consumption. A total of 29 distributed photovoltaic (PV) projects have been completed, with 22 of them built in 2023, achieving a total installed capacity of 3.3 MW. Among these, 14 PV power generation projects are operational, with a cumulative power generation of 976,000 kWh, of which 484,800 kWh is used for self-consumption.

  • Striving for Excellence: Pursuing Higher Goals

Kunlun Energy conducted an assessment of greenhouse gas emissions related to its value chain (Scope 3), identifying and analyzing emissions from nine Scope 3 categories for the first time. By publishing the "Climate Action White Paper", the company objectively and comprehensively disclosed its vision, strategies, and practices in addressing climate change, enhancing stakeholders' understanding of its climate strategy and progress, and supporting its efforts to continuously strengthen climate resilience. The Hainan Company’s Chengmai LNG reserve facility established its first self-contributed biodiversity conservation demonstration site, protecting 48 local bird species and 165 vascular plant species, illustrating a harmonious balance between ecological preservation and economic development.

Carbon Emission Management

We pay great attention to greenhouse gas emissions, constantly improve the company's carbon emission control system, strengthen methane emission reduction control, actively participate in the construction of carbon market, deeply participate in the global oil and gas industry cooperation on climate change, initiated the establishment of the "Chinese oil and Gas Enterprises Methane Control Alliance", and promote the oil and gas industry to accelerate the green and low-carbon transformation. We will accelerate the construction of a carbon emission control system, establish a "1+3" carbon emission system, and formulate the Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the control of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, the Measures for the Management of Carbon Trading, the Measures for the Management of the Statistical Assessment of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, and the Measures for the Management of Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Projects. In 2022, the company achieved a year-on-year reduction of 9.76% in methane emission intensity.
